Learning algebra is a tough experience for many students as the subject tests their adaptability as it has a grammar of its own. For a few seeing equations with alphabets in them is very difficult to process and they don’t even proceed beyond that and let their grades suffer in the process.

Here are a couple of tricks to help students work with algebra easily. These methods are popularly employed by online algebra tutors with much success.
Online Videos and Webinars offer simple tricks
There are many online videos, webcasts and webinars that offer simple shortcuts to multiplying polynomials and working faster with algebra. These tricks not only simply the process of understanding, they also help the students finish problems quickly and with ease! For instance, multiplying the following expressions may take a while for some students: (x+8) and (x+9)
There is a simple trick to getting the resultant expression quickly:
- Multiply the first two terms in both the expressions – x*x = x2 and this gives us the first term of the resultant expression
- For the middle term, multiply the second term of the first expression with the first term of the second and similarly do the vice-versa and add them up. This is called rainbow multiplication. 8*x + 9*x = 8x+9x = 17x
- Multiply the second terms in both the expressions to get the last term of the resultant expression. 8*9 = 72
Thus, the resultant expression is x2 + 17x + 72.

There are many more such tricks that are available in online videos and students can use them as algebra homework help to proceed with their assignments and homework effectively.
Do not memorize but focus on learning the underlying concepts
Math is one subject wherein memorizing things don’t help much when it comes to exams. For instance, it may be easy to memorize a formula, but that doesn’t guarantee that the student would be able to apply it to find the solution to a given problem. Looking for patterns and understanding how a particular formula or concept is employed and what it actually means is important. For instance:
24 = 2*2*2*2 = 16
23 = 2*2*2 =8
22= 2*2 = 4
21 = 2
A student simply has to look for patterns here and it is apparent that as the exponent decreases by one number, the answer is halved. Thus, 20 becomes 2/2 = 1. Thus, looking for patterns helps students work out problems in an easier fashion and solve them faster.
Explore different options for assignments
Algebra is a subject where students can explore a lot of different things and come up with different assignments and so on. For instance, when an assignment or project is given, students should explore the concepts and come up with different ideas and solutions. For instance, a teacher may give the following assignment to help students think and identify patterns: devise a formula to check if a given number is a prime or composite. Similarly, devise a formula to find out if a number is a multiple of ‘x’ (x may be any given number) and so on. Students would then have to work out the patterns and identify what is common in the factors and how to check if a number is a prime and so on. Students may even seek online algebra assignment help to work these out and understand how to go about doing it.
